Changes of Swallowing Function in the Elderly
Kim Yong-Kyun

Abstract
Dysphagia is a prevalent difficulty in elderly population. Furthermore dysphagia can be associated with nutritional deficits and increased risk of pneumonia. In addition, as people grow older, changes are observed in motor and sensory system. But these changes are seen in both symptomatic and asymptomatic elderly people. Therefore we should differentiate impact of aging on dysphagia from that of disease. In this review, I will focus data describing age related changes in swallowing.
